Overview

The Anchor Students Pastor leads the discipleship and community life of middle school and high school students at Anchor Church. This role blends relational presence with visionary leadership, creating spaces where students encounter Jesus, grow in faith, and experience belonging in the church. As part of Anchor’s pastoral team, this leader contributes to the overall mission and culture of the church through prayer, teamwork, and shared leadership. The Anchor Students Pastor equips leaders, partners with parents, and helps students take next steps in faith through weekly gatherings, small groups, events, and personal relationships.

Key Responsibilities

Student Discipleship & Formation

  • Oversee all programming and ministry for middle school and high school students, ensuring all activities align with Anchor’s mission and values.

  • Teach regularly and create environments where students can know, love, and follow Jesus.

  • Develop a plan for student care and spiritual growth through groups, mentoring, and discipleship rhythms.

  • Collaborate with the Kids Pastor to ensure a cohesive approach to next generation ministry.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Recruit, train, and equip volunteers for a variety of student ministry roles (teaching, care, planning, production, etc.).

  • Build a culture of teamwork, feedback, and joy among student ministry volunteers.

  • Communicate clearly and consistently with parents, building trust and partnership in discipleship.

Ministry Oversight & Operations

  • Plan and lead regular student gatherings, retreats, camps, and special events.

  • Develop and manage the Anchor Students budget in consultation with church leadership.

  • Maintain accurate records and reports related to student ministry participation and impact.

  • Ensure a visible leadership presence at Sunday gatherings and actively participate in the broader life of Anchor.

  • Attend and contribute to staff meetings and collaborative planning sessions.

Requirements

  • A vibrant and growing relationship with Jesus Christ.

  • A deep love for students and a calling to help them follow Jesus within the local church.

  • Experience (paid or volunteer) in leading within a healthy and growing student ministry.

  • Strong communication and relational skills with both students and adults.

  • Ability to recruit, equip, and lead volunteers effectively.

  • High emotional intelligence, organizational skill, and adaptability.

Reports To: Executive Pastor of Ministries
Status: Full-Time // 40 - 50 hours/week
Location: Anchor Church – Tacoma, WA

  • Ministry overview (1 page maximum) describing your current or most recent youth ministry, including ministry size, volunteer structure, and primary focus
